Release 2.0 Announcement

Release 2.0 has been released to Patrons, today on New Year's Eve! In seven days (January 7th), it will be released to the public.

Release 2.0 additions include:

- Day 2

- Evan's first nine character sprites (new art)

Thanks to everyone who has stuck around patiently and waited for this project to get updated. It's been a busy fall quarter for me (Dirk), so I had to put school first before any of my hobbies.

This update covers Evan's move to San Vicente, and him getting adjusted to the new lifestyle. It is the weekend before Evan starts university, so things will start to pick up from here. There will be some choices that impact how your day goes, but these are not official routes yet. All the different paths will eventually reconvene by release 3.0, so don't stress if you're still deciding!

Another big note is that our project's artist, AWKN_Arts, has started working on sprites. Originally,  I had planned for them to start work beginning with release 3.0, but they surprised me by starting early and working on Evan's first set of sprites! We got to work starting around late November / early December, and finished them about a week or two ago. Next up on the list is the remaining main cast (Marcus, Kenny, Vic, and Selma) along with other supporting cast members. After this, we plan to revamp the CG's currently implemented, and possibly add custom backgrounds if the opportunity arises. I want to thank AWKN_Arts again for being on the ball with their work, and being great to work with. We really look forward to what's to come!

Besides that, we also have a new main menu theme! Produced and recorded by CRT_SpaceCat, Ocean Avenue now has a sweet synth vibe to tie things together! Like me, CRT also had a pretty busy fall with school, so we have not collaborated much yet on the musical direction, but in the next few months, we should have a better sense on how we want to handle and implement the musical side of the project. It will be a big part of the story, especially in certain routes and scenarios!

And finally, we're done with 2020! This has been a crazy year for all of us, and I hope for everyone's sake, that things can start turning in a positive direction. At Ocean Avenue, we want to make your day better by giving you an enjoyable, interactive fantasy. For me personally, I started writing Ocean Avenue as a place to escape to when I felt distraught or beaten down by my reality. While I cannot write the world to be a better place, I aspire to write a world that puts my readers in a better place. Happy New Year, and good luck to everyone in 2021!
